Another Successful Pain Management Seminar for Medical & Legal Professionals by Dr Nasiek

The evening began with Bill De Lasi of Hudson Regional Hospital (HRH) giving a presentation. He spoke about the array of services HRH offers as an in-network facility working with many insurance plans. Located in Secaucus, New Jersey, HRH is one of Northern New Jersey’s Premier hospitals with a mission to build a healthier community through exceptional care, sophisticated technology, and knowledgeable physicians. They are committed to investing in facility improvements, working with top level physicians, and integrating advanced technologies, and always provide their patients with the most sophisticated robotic technologies and treatment modalities.

Our main presenter, Dr. Dariusz Nasiek, presented the third part of his Best Clinical Documentation presentation, a series that has been in place for the last few months. He began the presentation by outlining how to document permanent damages, stating that the physician should first actually review all MRI or EMG results, then write that they have “personally reviewed all test and diagnostic studies and that they agree (or disagree) with the radiologist/neurologist opinion and diagnosis.”

Dr. Nasiek went on to speak about axial or non-radiating pain - pain confined to one spot or region. To properly diagnose the non-radiating pain, the diagnostic testing includes facet joint block or provocative discography. These tests have become the gold standard in evaluating patients with this type of pain.

Finally, Dr. Nasiek spoke explained the differential diagnoses of low back pain, whether it be radicular pain vs. Non-radiating pain. He explained that non-radiating somatic pain can be coming from the skeletal structure, tendons, and muscles. This would be referred to as facet joint pain, SI joint pain, and discogenic pain. Radicular pain radiates from your back and neck into your legs or arms. The pain travels along the spinal nerve root with leg pain and/or arm pain accompanied by numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness. This occurs when the spinal nerve is compressed or inflamed.

Our next, highly anticipated meeting will be held on Thursday June 16th 7-9 PM at the same location, The Royal Warsaw. Mr. Gerald Baker, Esq., one of the most able and high-profile personal injury attorneys in the nation will be presenting on Automobile Insurance: How to Protect You & Your Family. We are extending our invitation to all our friends, contributors, and professional family to participate in future events.
