April 04, 2022
On Thursday, March 31st, Dr. Nasiek from Allied Neurology Interventional Pain Practice, PC hosted a networking event where many attorneys, physicians, chiropractors, and medical professionals gathered. The seminar was held at the Royal Warsaw Restaurant in Elmwood Park, NJ. Attendees were invited by Dr. Dariusz Nasiek, pain management specialist, and they were joined by co-sponsors Susan Ruiz, Business Development Specialist from Hudson Regional Hospital, and guest speaker Sean Barresi from WIRX Pharmacy.
Sean Barresi started off the night with a presentation on WIRX Pharmacy, in which he explained that his company is a premier mail order pharmacy servicing injured worker’s prescription needs. WIRX Pharmacy is not affiliated with any insurance or managed care companies. Rather, they are an independent company committed to working with their clients and physicians to ensure each client receives uninterrupted prescriptions during their care. They communicate well with their clients and doctors and offer expedited service and exceptional customer service, with pharmacy managers always available to answer questions.
Following Barresi’s presentation, Dr. Nasiek spoke on Best Clinical Documentation. He began by outlining how to document permanent damages, stating that a the physician should review all MRI and/or EMG results, then state that he have personally reviewed all test and diagnostic studies and that they agree with the radiologist/neurologist opinion and diagnosis. Dr. Nasiek then moved on to explain the best way to manage a case. A physician should start by beginning evaluation early in course of the patient’s care. A physician must also evaluate the need for consultations with other health professionals, such as orthopedics, podiatry, or mental health, then coordinate therapy and order any necessary diagnostic studies, such as EMG or MRI and be sure to prescribe any necessary medications. A determination needs to be made on whether to pursue interventional pain procedures or provide surgical referrals. Lastly, a comprehensive final report of evaluation and treatment is compiled along with any video of procedures.
Dr. Nasiek further expressed that when documenting injury, some key terms are disc herniation/bulging, cervical radiculopathy, facet arthropathy, sprain/strain, bone fracture or skin laceration. Documentation must include that each of these issues were reviewed personally and are based on objective MRI/EMG findings. The report should state that the injury was directly related to the accident and the patient will not heal on its own without additional support.
Apart from the educational presentation, the medical and legal community alike enjoyed delicious food, plenty of networking, and the space to discuss medical legal issues with peers.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday April 21st 2022 at 7PM at the same location, The Royal Warsaw. A big thank you to Hudson Regional Hospital and WIRX Pharmacy for sponsoring this very successful event. We would also like to thank all our friends, contributors, and professional family for making these events such a huge success.
