Attendees were invited by Dr. Dariusz Nasiek, pain management specialist and Dr. Ravi Tikoo MD, Board Certified neurologist. This time, they were joined by special guest speaker Dr. Steven Ugras, an orthopedic hand surgeon from Paramus Hand Surgery.

After Dr. Ugras’ presentation, Dr. Nasiek presented the most current update to COVID-19 and the need for early ambulatory treatment in acutely ill patients. Early treatment as well as early multi-drug therapy helps in reducing the progression of the disease, and therefore lowers risk of hospitalization and possible death. Dr. Nasiek stated that although there are currently no approved drugs in the United States for COVID-19, many studies have found that taking two antiviral agents - such as zinc, hydroxychloroquine, or ivermectin - one antibiotic - such as azithromycin, doxycycline, or ceftriaxone - one inhaled budesonide, and/or intramuscular dexamethasone helps in reducing the progression of the virus. From most recent developments – drug maker Merck believes to have invented an experimental pill for the virus which reduces hospitalizations and death by half. If approved, it will be the first pill known to treat COVID-19. Dr. Nasiek also spoke about recent study led by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health which found COVID-19 to be a seasonal infection, much like the flu, linked to low temperatures and humidity. Dr. Nasiek made it clear that the CDC now approves of getting the COVID-19 vaccine and the flu shot at the same time, and that the booster is the same recipe as the original shot, despite the emergence of the Delta variant.
Apart from the educational presentation, the medical and legal community alike enjoyed delicious food, camaraderie, and the space to discuss medical legal issues with peers. The meeting was held according to the most recent safety guidelines put out by New Jersey and was organized with safety as its highest priority. The great demand and exciting response to Dr. Nasiek’s initiative will allow these monthly legal seminars to be continued.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday December 16th at 7PM at the same location, The Royal Warsaw. A big thank you to all our friends, contributors, and professional family for making these events such a huge success.
