The Kosciuszko Foundation Invites you to the Opening of Superstructure by Krzysztof Franaszek

Through sculpture, video, and drawing, Superstructure reflects on the fragility of both material and symbolic structures in a rapidly transforming world. Set within the historic interiors of the Foundation’s New York townhouse, the exhibition creates a powerful dialogue between contemporary art and the legacy of Polish-American tradition.

Franaszek—recipient of the 2024/2025 Kosciuszko Foundation Grant—examines the collapse and endurance of systems shaped by identity, migration, memory, and entropy. A seven-minute video installation evokes cultural layering and physical decay; sculptural works, crafted from industrial remnants and inspired by Acoma Pueblo traditions, explore tensions between ideal and material form; and a series of sanguine drawings maps the ephemeral architecture of our times.
Born in Lublin, Poland, in 1981 and based in Warsaw, Franaszek is a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and a graduate of its Faculty of Sculpture. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Europe, the U.S., and Asia, including at the New Museum in New York, the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, and the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh. His practice probes the intersections between human nature and artificial environments, revealing the ongoing interplay of creation and decay.
